3-Day Meru Trek
Trek Overview
This 3-day trek is a faster and more demanding alternative to climb Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second highest mountain. It requires long hiking hours and minimal rest time, making it best suited for experienced hikers or those with good fitness and prior trekking experience.
The journey starts at Momella Gate, where you might see colobus monkeys and giraffes in the forest.
Climb through beautiful landscapes, stopping at Miriakamba and Saddle Huts. A short hike to Little Meru helps your body adjust to the altitude before the big climb. The early morning trek to Socialist Peak rewards you with a stunning sunrise over the mountains.
This adventure takes you through different natural environments, where you can see wild animals, walk along rocky ridges, and enjoy the raw beauty of the volcano.
If you prefer a more gradual ascent with better acclimatization, the 4-day trek is a better option.

3 Days Meru Trekking Itinerary
Arrival Day: Arrival in Moshi Tanzania
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your friendly guide, who will take you to your hotel in Moshi. Once you settle in, you can relax and prepare for your big adventure ahead. Spend the evening at a brief meeting, where you’ll learn about the details of the climb and what to expect. Explore the town, shop for any last-minute gear, and enjoy a good night’s sleep as you get ready to start your climb in the morning.
Day 1: Start in the Green (Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut)
You start at Momella Gate. You’ll meet your guide and walk into a thick, green forest. This is Arusha Park. Look for tall giraffes, big buffalo, and lots of birds. The path goes up, and the trees get thinner. You sleep at Miriakamba Hut.

Day 2: Up to the Rocks (Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut)
You keep walking up. Now you’re in open fields and on rocky ground. You’ll see far away views, maybe even Mount Kilimanjaro. You can walk up a small hill, Little Meru, to get ready for the big climb. You sleep at Saddle Hut.

Day 3: To the Top and Back Down (Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak to Momella Gate)
You wake up at midnight for the final climb. The trail is steep and rocky as you pass Rhino Point and Cobra Point. After hours of climbing, you reach Socialist Peak just in time for sunrise, with breathtaking views of the Meru Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro. After enjoying the moment, you descend back to Saddle Hut for a rest, then continue all the way down to Momella Gate, where your trek ends.

Time: 10–12 hours
Sleep: None – transfer back to Moshi/Arusha
